Meet Our Chiefs

Chiefs are students that have been selected by the team's Coordinators to lead the Action Team Manatee to success throughout all four years of their high school experience. These students deliver the personality of the team, for they have: demonstrated their inclined strengths to lead a large mass of other students with great responsibility, approachable social skills, organizational skills, quick adaptability, devotion to the team, and most importantly, the efforts of bringing forth love for involvement in their community. Volunteering exemplifies love for the community; yet these students influence love within the team as well. We greatly appreciate these students for the wonderful efforts they have put into making the domino effect of love continue on even after graduation, and for inspiring so many other students to put their best efforts.

"In the summer before my 10th grade year, I became the founder and first Chief of Action Team at Manatee School for the Arts. My primary motivation for starting up a chapter of Action Team at school was a belief that little efforts can accumulate to make big differences. The group began with approximately ten students, but grew more at an exponential rate. Our team has never once rested on our laurels, as we are constantly setting new projects arise. Being able to see people smile because of our efforts as a team is one of the most rewarding experiences I have had throughout my career. Perhaps the only matter that grants me an even larger feeling of pride, however, would be watching how many student personally benefit from being a part of the team. I am proud of my team, and astounded at the passion that my peers have towards volunteering; watching students like me grow as individuals reminds me that anything is possible when an individual maintains a positive outlook in life and takes a step towards making their ideas a reality."

"I've always known that helping people gave me this feeling of purpose in my life. Finding Action Team in high school definitely changed me for the better, and it had fulfilled my love for helping others. At the time, I was in a very dark place and my thoughts were not as positive as they could be. My best friend, Jazmin Reyes, told me about a volunteer group that was looking for members to join. I ended up feeling very strong from day one about this volunteer club that I had heard about. Yet, little did I know that it would grow to be a part of me; that it would give my mind an easier place to transpire. It's difficult to describe... but the feeling of giving grants me a magical-like sense that there is much potential in this crazy world we live in. My goal of being a Chief in Action Team was, and still is, to spread this positive feeling that I had felt all of these years. Hopefully this creates that domino effect of love that Action Team Manatee reflects."

"I first joined Action Team in order to follow my philosophy that “there's always a greener tomorrow.” That doesn't only pertain to the Earth, but to life in general; as it will get better no matter what. I wouldn't be able to make the ocean cleaner, pursue a career where innovation is the key to success, or  even help others if I did not follow that philosophy. I attempt to do my part by being generous and positive towards others. After a year, I was offered the position of a Chief and I loved the leadership role so I accepted. I grew, expanded my volunteering, and made connections with different people. While the events I participated in expanded so did my goals. Without Action Team I wouldn’t have found this love and need to help more than just the environment. Action team became more than a volunteer group and I think that’s a big part of why I joined. These efforts have a positive effect on the community and that truly does warm my heart. I can not be anything but proud of all the work contributed to Action Team, and I look forward to every year."

"I began the journey by joining Action Team  as a way to get involved in my community and school. Little did I know that it would become something more. I grew to love it even more so than before and will still continue to do so for many years to come. From gaining insight by volunteering to achieving the leadership role as captain then chief in Action Team. By taking on responsibility I have helped inspired others to do they same in the community and guided them further to thrive also to influence others to do the same. Whether I know it or not, I do not regret giving my time and energy to mentor more potential hardworking and kind individuals to do the same as me. I’ve not only been making a difference in the community but bringing people together and creating a family along the way. Most of all it has changed me as an individual. The experiences that I have acquired and the skills that I’ve gained has shaped me to surpass limits that I didn’t realize were imposed to further develop my abilities. Action Team has not only taught me value and important of volunteering, but also that the adventure that comes along the way. I will always support Action Team and it’s goals and hope that others would do the same."
